Who took the pooch?
By the time I returned to Kai, Valentine’s Day was almost over. But solving Tala’s mystery and helping her bring Mr. Geppetto and Tala together, warmed my heart. Since his wife had left him and Tala’s son had moved across the country, they’d both been lonely.
“So who did it?” Kai asked when he poured a drop of honey in my second cup of tea that night. I gratefully accepted the mug and leaned back on the couch. I inhaled the scent of lavender and honey and smiled.
“Who do you think?” I teased. “Mr. Grumpy G was actually trying to impress Tala and he took the dog to get groomed which was why the collar was missing. Admittedly, he doesn’t go about things the right way.”
“Maybe I should give him lessons in romance?” Kai joked. He sat down next to me and pulled me into him. We’d enjoyed our meal at the park, on my favorite bench. But this, inside our cozy home, in fuzzy pajamas and with a queue full of crime documentaries to binge, I was happiest.
“I love you,” Kai said.
“I know,” I responded in the Star Wars quote.
